Robust, ecological–economic multispecies management of Central Baltic fishery resources

چکیده
Abstract The Baltic fisheries are in distress. In the Central Baltic, management is challenged by reduced cod stock productivity, and altered species interactions. Here, we use an age-structured, ecological–economic multispecies model, which includes latest biological economic knowledge, to advance our understanding of optimal related trade-offs between user groups under such conditions. We contribute scientific discussion (i) showing that importance size largely decreased prevailing conditions, while clupeids increased importance. (ii) challenge current MSY objective a setting (MMSY) suggest (MMEY) might be more useful for future targets. (iii) identify new synergies including consumer perspective: There win–win situation ecological conservation, profits fishery, fishery faces these two on one hand, surplus other hand. (iv) Finally, easy implement approach, called robust management, capable better dealing with variability time-trends recruitment, as observed cod, order safeguard resources.

Strengthening governance of ocean fishery resources
Governance of the world’s marine fisheries is ill-adapted to sustainability. Twenty years after the expansion of exclusive economic zones over most of the continental shelves, fisheries worldwide face problems of stock depletion, declining yields and increasing conflict. Other human activities in the ocean compound the effect. What is wrong? This paper is about the internal workings of fishery ...
متن کاملRobust Network Design For Multispecies Conservation
Our work is motivated by an important network design application in computational sustainability concerning wildlife conservation. In the face of human development and climate change, it is important that conservation plans for protecting landscape connectivity exhibit certain level of robustness. While previous work has focused on conservation strategies that result in a connected network of h...
